Carpenter/Task Lead

Commercial Division

Columbus, Ohio

ROLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform duties assigned by leads

  • Basic understanding and navigation of drawings

  • Set Forms (Bulk Heads, Wall Forms, columns, piers, structural decks, and scaffolding system.  With multiple different types of lumber)

  • Understanding of Plumb, Level, and Straight

  • Take care of tools 

  • Operate equipment/tools (Skid Steer, Telehandler With foreman approval), Saws, Impacts, Drills, etc.

  • Set up laser 

  • Knowledge of hand tools

  • Train Your Replacement” (Robert Sykes)

BASELINE QUALIFICATIONS:

The Concrete Carpenter/Task Lead will possess the knowledge, skill, and/or ability in the following areas essential to perform the functions of the position.  

Education and/or Experience

  • Basic knowledge of construction Drawings

  • Knowledge of construction

  • Valid driver’s license or State ID

  • Reliable transportation

  • 2-years related experience or training 

  • Equipment certifications for skid steers or forklifts (Thompson will train if necessary)

  • 10-hour OSHA certification (Thompson will train if necessary)

Language / Communication Skills

  • Good Listening Skills.

  • Willing to Learn

  • Effective communication with team members clients, subcontractors, etc.

  • Have an idea or solution if a problem arises

Mathematical Skills

  • Math (Add, Subtract, Multiply, and Divide)

  • Be able to read a tape measure 

  • Convert tenths to inches

  • Ability to use Fractions and Percentages

Interpersonal Skills

  • Ability to effectively present information to your lead foreman.

  • Ability to work with a team to resolve issues

  • Be a Mentor to a fellow employee

Availability/Dependability

  • Able to work 5 to 6 days a week

  • Expect early start times and long days (Times will vary from job to job)

  • Be on time daily

Physical Demands

  • Properly lift objects up to 50 pounds.

  • Push and pull heavy objects

  • Work in strenuous conditions with minimal breaks

  • Ability to work at Various heights

  • Work with multiple types of tools

  • Be able to carry a tool belt all day

Work Environment

  • Work involves exposure to outside weather conditions and concrete, dirt, dust, fumes, and/or loud noise levels.

  • Be aware of surrounding operations

Tools Requirements/Clothing Attire

  • Clothes with no large holes and no cut off shirts

  • Rubber Boots

  • Sturdy Leather work boots

  • Tape Measure

  • Hammer

  • Utility Knife

  • Pliers

  • Square

  • Chalk line

  • 6” level

  • Tool Belt (capable of holding screws, nails, hammer, pliers, tape measure, utility knife, Square, Chalk line.)

ENSURES A SAFE WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Safety at all times (Hard Hats, Safety Glasses, High Vise at all times)

  • Sets example by following safety guidelines including but not limited to wearing PPE on jobs, staying aware of surroundings, etc. 

  • Attends and participates in Tool Box Talks and provides input for Safety Task Analysis

  • Complies with proper safety procedures

  • See something say something 

PARTICIPATES IN TRAINING / CERTIFICATIONS:

  • CPR and First Aid Certification

  • 10-hour OSHA

  • Approved career related training

  • Rigging/Hoisting, Crane Certificates

  • Special equipment certificates (Thompson will provide training if needed)
