ROLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform duties assigned by leads

  • Keep crane clean and perform daily inspections

  • Inspect crane daily for defects

  • Keep crane extensions and grease points greased on a routine basis

  • Be prepared to help in all aspects of concrete construction.

  • Make sure load is secured properly

  • Routine inspections on crane

  • Working with crews on an as needed basis and as schedule allows.

BASELINE QUALIFICATIONS:

The Crane Operator will possess the knowledge, skill, and/or ability in the following areas essential to perform the functions of the position.

Education and/or Experience

  • Valid DOT Physical

  • Knowledge of construction

  • Reliable transportation

  • NCCCO or NCCER crane operator certification for rough terrain crane (Thompson will train if necessary)

  • OSHA 10 (Thompson will train if necessary)

  • Driving experience of CDL vehicle is preferred but not required

Language / Communication Skills

  • Good Listening Skills.

  • Willing to Learn

  • Effective communication with team members

  • Have an idea or solution if a problem arises

Mathematical Skills

  • Math (Add, Subtract, Multiply, and Divide)

  • Be able to read a tape measure

Interpersonal Skills

  • Ability to effectively present information to your lead

  • Be a Mentor to a fellow employee

Availability/Dependability

  • Able to work 5 to 6 days a week

  • Expect early start times and long days (Times will vary from job to job)

  • Be on time daily

Physical Demands

  • Properly lift objects up to 50 pounds.

  • Push and pull heavy objects

  • Work in strenuous conditions with minimal breaks

  • Ability to work at various heights

Work Environment

  • Work involves exposure to outside weather conditions and concrete, dirt, dust, fumes, and/or loud noise levels.

  • Be aware of surrounding operations

Tools Requirements/Clothing Attire

  • High vis shirt or vest

  • Proper clothing with no large holes

  • Pants that cover top of boots

  • Cloths with no large holes and no cut off shirt

  • Sturdy leather work boots

  • Tape Measure

  • Hammer

  • Tool Belt (capable of holding screws, nails, hammer, pliers, tape measure, pins, wedges)

ENSURES A SAFE WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Safety at all times (Hard Hats, Safety Glasses, High Vise at all times)

  • Sets example by following safety guidelines including but not limited to wearing PPE on jobs, staying aware of surroundings, etc. 

  • Attends and participates in Tool Box Talks and provides input for Safety Task Analysis

  • Complies with proper safety procedures

  • See something say something 

PARTICIPATES IN TRAINING / CERTIFICATIONS:

  • CPR and First Aid Certification

  • 10-hour OSHA

  • Approved career related training

  • Rigging/Hoisting, Crane Certificates

  • Special equipment certificates (Thompson will provide training if needed)
